ONLINE NOTARIZATIONS ARE LEGAL AND ACCEPTED IN ALL 50 STATES

OPEN: Monday – Friday 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm EST.

Does the Person Signing the Document Need to be Present During Online Notarization?

Yes, the person signing the document must be present during an online notarization.
While online notarization offers convenience, it still requires real-time interaction between the signer and the notary public. The notary needs to verify the signer’s identity through a video conference and ensure that the signing is voluntary and understood.
This real-time interaction is crucial to maintain the integrity and legal validity of the notarization process.

The cost for a Remote Online Notarization is $15 per stamp when completed Monday through Friday before 5:00 PM EST. For notarization requests made after 5:00 PM EST Monday through Friday, as well as anytime on Saturday and Sunday, there is a $5 upcharge, making the total $20 per stamp. Payment must be submitted during the notarization meeting via PayPal, Zelle, CashApp, or Venmo—no cash or checks are accepted. The notarization will not be completed until payment is received.

To perform an online notarization, you’ll need:

  • A stable internet connection
  • A device with a camera, microphone, and sound capabilities
  • A valid government-issued photo ID
  • To appear before the notary via a live audio-video call

Yes, online notarization is legal in the United States. States have laws that recognize and accept out-of-state notarizations.

It depends on the type of notarization required.

  • If your document requires an Acknowledgment notarial act, you may sign it before the session. The notary’s role is to verify your identity and confirm that you “acknowledged before me” that you signed the document willingly. This type of notarization is commonly used for real estate transactions, powers of attorney, and business agreements.

  • If your document requires a Jurat notarial act, you must wait to sign during the session. A jurat requires the notary to witness your signature and administer an oath or affirmation, where you will “swear to or affirm” that the contents of the document are true. Jurats are typically used for affidavits, sworn statements, and legal testimonies.

A remote notary is a legally commissioned notary public who is authorized to conduct notarizations over the internet via digital tools and a live audio video call.
All notaries, no matter how they perform their service, must watch as someone signs a document. Historically, this has required that the notary and signer must travel to meet one another in-person where the notary serves as a witness during the signing event.
The name “remote notary” is derived from the fact that the notary serves the customer remotely over the internet.

Physical (Scanned) Signature:
The signer will physically sign their document (by hand) in front of the notary. After the video session, the signer will scan and upload their signed document via the “Upload Documents” section of the meeting page. Once uploaded, the notary will notarize the document and provide the final notarization via email.
Electronic Signature:
The signer will upload the unsigned documents prior to the appointment. During the video session, the documents will be signed electronically (eSign). After the session, the document(s) will be electronically notarized and delivered via email.
